What is a community health worker?
CHWs are frontline health workers who are members of – or closely related to – the communities in which they serve. This peer relationship enables CHWs to serve as trusted messengers between health/social services and the community, bridging gaps in access to services while improving the quality and cultural competence of the services delivered.

Certified by California’s Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, Pacific Empire College was founded in 2024 as a first of its kind institution dedicated to addressing the mounting shortage of community health workers in the state of California.
By partnering with health employers to leverage the power of CHWs and by training aspiring health professionals on our medically reviewed curriculum, we aim to advance the CHW profession while also creating economic opportunities for aspiring health workers and bridging critical gaps in care access for our community’s most vulnerable populations.
