ADVANCED CHW TRAINING
Deepen expertise in the care areas that matter most.
Advanced training to navigate violence, substance use, and other critical barriers to health.
Our specialized training programs for Community Health Workers and other patient-facing are designed to expand their capabilities in critical, often underserved areas of care.
Be equipped for the challenging moments.
Some of the most consequential situations a CHW will encounter require a deeper, more specialized skill set in order to effectively respond.
From supporting a client in a behavioral health crisis to helping someone navigating addiction domestic violence, advanced training is designed to equip CHWs to respond to high-stress, specialized situations.
Advanced training for high-stakes situations.
Our advanced training programs were developed to address the most challenging, consequential situations.
Grounded in the same medically reviewed framework as our foundational curriculum, each course prepares CHWs and other patient-facing staff to recognize, respond to, and navigate some of the most high-stakes challenges in community health. These programs are appropriate for individual CHWs looking to specialize their training in order to prepare for a specific role, or organizations seeking to build staff capacity in targeted areas of care.
Trainings designed to go beyond the fundamentals.
OUR ADVANCED PROGRAMS:
-
Equip your team to support individuals experiencing mental and behavioral health challenges. Participants learn to identify common mental health conditions, respond to behavioral health crises, and help clients navigate complex systems of care — skills that are critical for any CHW working with vulnerable populations.
-
Build the knowledge and tools needed to address one of the most prevalent and costly drivers of poor health outcomes. Through a structured ten-module curriculum, participants explore the biological, psychological, cultural, and social factors that contribute to substance use disorders, along with evidence-based strategies for prevention and navigation.
-
Prepare CHWs to serve as violence interrupters in their communities. Rooted in a neighborhood-based approach, this course trains participants to recognize warning signs, de-escalate conflict, and engage effectively in high-risk settings, a role that requires both skill and cultural credibility.
-
Designed for Spanish-speaking community members and bilingual health professionals, this course prepares participants to serve as trusted health messengers and advocates within Latinx communities. Led by bilingual instructors, the program builds the cultural knowledge and communication skills needed to address health disparities, navigate language barriers, and deliver care education in a manner that is deeply attuned to the needs of the communities being served.

THE PAYOFF
With advanced training, CHWs and other staff become more equipped to spot problems before they ever become problems.
Ineffective responses to behavioral health challenges, substance use, and community violence are among the leading drivers of missed appointments, poor care plan adherence, and preventable readmissions.
But by building your team's capacity to identify and address these issues upstream, you're not only improving outcomes for the people you serve, you're reducing the organizational costs associated with deferred or reactive care.
The benefits of advanced training include:
Uncovering and addressing the care gaps that cost your organization most
Increasing your team's ability to ask better questions and surface critical issues early
Improving care quality by removing subtle but significant obstacles to adherence
Decreasing readmission of vulnerable and high-
risk populations
“I have observed a significant enhancement in my advocacy skills, and a greater capacity to conduct research and locate resources for my members independently.
I’ve gained the skills to actively listen and demonstrate genuine concern as they share their experiences and challenges."
